Nyonya's Sweets

They look so familiar, right? Like our local delicacies - kutsinta, sapin-sapin, empanada, puto, butchi, lumpia, etc. .

Found this cart of desserts by Nyonya Cafe House in one of the malls at Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
For 1Rm each (not bad, around less than P15, forex as of my visit last month 2011), I tried some just to know if they tasted exactly as they looked as our own desserts. Well, sorry to us but those 5 pieces that I tried with my friends_ were better, creamier and got more character.

I went out of the mall and saw these generic sweets in the street of JB. I didn't try them cos I had enough of sugar from those Nyonya's.

Upon my return in Singapore the next day. . .

. . found more sweets in the outskirts of Little India which looks were quite similar to those desserts in the prev photos in JB. Only this time, it was x2 in price cos an Sg$ is like x2 of a Malaysian Ringgit.

I tried some and well they were a lot distinctive in taste when compare to the Nyonya desserts. Little India's desserts were overly sweet and it was very hard to finish a bar without battling to gulp water in every bite. Too sugary. .even to my high level of sweet tooth-nessy.haha.

Well, if you thought you could beat me on sugar war, here are more sweets I had in my 2009 visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia : click this and this.

Takoyaki Chips

I love potato chips. I am a muncher. But I'm cheap so I don't buy those big bags of expensive chips. I'm ok with Jack 'n Jill bbq flavored potato chips. I don't like other flavors we have here locally.

Bought this J &J takoyaki flavor from SG.

Came with a pouch of takoyaki powder which meant to be mixed in with the chips.
Liketh. But can't find same flavor here. hello, do I need to visit SG again just so I can get my supply? haha. Just bought our local bbq flavor to fill-up the craving.

Thumbler Coffee

For a moment I got confused on what breakfast drink would I have (- last month while having a random breakfast at my friend's house in SG ). On the table were cartons of juices, milk, soya and choco drink. Coffee was to serve. Hooommh. . so many choices. . at home we only have 2 - juice or choco. I usually have water. I'm not a coffee drinker. None of my family is. So we don't actually have a coffee maker or coffee granules/ powder at home.

But seeing these cute coffee tumblers in different variants like jamaican, swiss, etc. gave me a joy to have coffee that morning (and the breakfasts that followed in that house).

Look how pretty!!!

They were prepared with this coffee machine. How? I didn't know. haha.

Coffee was served to me already cupped.

After a cup of an awesome coffee I was ready to rise and shine tour around the awesome city of Singapore.
