Halowich

Apart from fruit shakes and milk teas, little sundaes  from Halowich at D'Mall in Boracay , were our favorite thirst quenchers.

While most tables there ordered big bowls of  halohalo and icecream, we chose to have these little cups. We didn't have time to enjoy those pretty giant ice cream to share as we were always running after our shuttle service back to our hotel. Our shuttle's drop & pick-up point was at the road entrance of D'mall and we usually ended our day at long beach there. With a sundae each.

Halowich, I heard rooted from the combi words of halohalo and sandwich. I don't know about their sandwiches, but their sundaes were good. It's hard to miss this snack house at D'Mall with its loud colors. The exterior with its food display is such an eye candy.

Icebergs' Halohalo

This was a prelude snack to our buffet (@ Vikings ) dinner with my friend who was in her a month long visit to Ph. but got only a day for me to spend. #sourgraping#. haha. Kidding aside, I understand how these "balikbayan" vacationers always with hectic holiday schedule. You know Filipino culture with dozens of relatives and friends to meet up, I'm just thankful my overseas friends never forget to spare time for me whenever they get to visit.

Anyway, while walking around  MOA, we passed by this ice cream parlor and the bold "halohalo" poster on the wall didn't fail to entice my friend to get us all inside. The place is called Icebergs serving not only cold desserts but other dishes too. The likes of sisig, lechon kawali, etc. Yet, we couldn't care less about the other dishes as I mentioned we were heading for a huge dinner buffet at Vikings in an hour and a little so.

Our eyes were fixed only and nothing else but to the halohalo on the wall. Quickly, exact replicas of the halohalo on the wall had been served on our table.

I was happy about the exactness of the real thing against the photo ad. At this point I was so used of getting the lesser version of a dish when served on the table and so much unlike the one in the menu or poster ads. My bff couldn't agree less and was also so happy about her jumbo halohalo.

I'm far so much far from a big eater. I would always and would never finish a dish that much. Even halohalo in a smaller glass/bowl, I never at once got to finish it. There would always wasted left over if husband isn't around to finish my dish. But this time? I surprised myself for finishing the whole dish all the way down. That good! Yes! I claim that it's the best halohalo in town. No cheat. Every little ingredient was good. Really, I would definitely comeback to Icebergs when halohalo craving hits me next. I just hope to find nearer oultlet, somewhere.

Mochi Craze

I'm not sure when these cute cold yummy balls started to roll in Ph shores, but I noticed my own girls had this "mochi craze" begun when they first saw the cute Japanese kiosk at SM and bought their first mochis. That was not too long ago, about only 2-3 months ago_ at the height of the heavy daily rain pours. Both (the heavy rain and my girls mochi fever) still ongoing til' this day. They never get to miss to buy each a mochi or two while malling no matter how cold the weather get.

Mochi ice cream is basically a rice cake filled with it seems one scoop of ice cream. It's one convenient way to eat ice cream sans the drippings out of the conventional scoop on a cone. Plus it's a Japanese origin, nothing is less.

Neither I'm sure if it's the same dish as the tempura ice cream I saw my brother indulging at Sakae Sushi one time. Somehow, related I guess. But the tempura ice cream is being served hot from the pan. The mochi is cold inside and out. Only both are covered with batter.

Mochi is a great on the go ice cream. It's round, small, solid ball that one could easily bite into while strolling.  A sit down is not necessary but if you want to enjoy a company while biting on this creamy cold dessert, go ahead, the pleasure is yours. By now I see a number of mochi ice cream parlors around the city.

Besides, these mochi kiosks and parlors are too cute to ignore. We couldn't resist the pinkness of Mochiko (at ATC, Alabang). Girls couldn't say no to pink. Can you?

These "lucky cats", don't know the proper name, on the walls are pure cuteness.

The pink full bodied, quilted seat is just so inviting to sit on to enjoy your mochi.

We actually like Mochiko quite better than the other brand at SM. it's bigger also. Although it's more expensive like P10 to P20 more than the other one. So far we only got to taste those two brands of mochi here at Ph.

Arce Dairy Scooping Station

I was happy when I found out that part of the dessert table of  Cafe Asiana's buffet was a scooping station of our local  Arce Dairy ice cream. I made a pass on halo-halo bar and a big buffet of pastries and  local delicacies and jump off straight to the ice cream station.

Well the health conscious me would definitely be happier if they would serve Arce sherbets. Now this one confuses me_ does Arce Dairy have real ice cream at all or just sherbets? Cos, just now I realized, I had never bought ice cream from this local brand, only sherbets.

When I saw the brand I mindlessly associated it with  sherbets. So I asked the server to fill my bowl of each flavor I never had_ like blueberry chocolate which minty blue color caught my attention first.

This is my first serving. Toppings were also generously available.

My daughter whose sweet tooth is naturally inherited from her mother made the most out of the scooping station until the lunch buffet closed. haha.
