Food Vendors on the Beach

This lady couldn't resist street food. Especially when she saw the dried squid on stick. After 5 sticks, she gave the verdict : on this side of P.I., found the sweetest grilled dried squid.

There were lots of cart vendors in Boracay, selling the same street foods in Manila . Carts are parked on a world class, fine white sand/ beach . I wonder how hard they try to keep away from polluting the beautiful beach.

Dinner by the Beach, Astoria

We dined twice at our hotel's alfresco buffet by the beach. One of which was a complimentary dinner courtesy of the best resort manager in Boracay ( hurray!!!), Astoria's Mr. Danny.

Dinner was set up right infont of the hotel. Those two nights, there were bands playing during dinner.

We chose this spot on our first night. This one was the nearest table to the sea and got a lot of privacy. I guess, this was intended for couple on honeymoon. Yet suited our noisy laughter over funny chats between cousin Che and me. The solo table, isolated our noise.

On our second dinner at Astoria, we were glad to experience another set of buffet menu. Service was superb. Staffs were always on their feet to attend guests' needs.

A sand castle was especially made, sponsored by Astoria to the delight of the hotel guests and other beach goers of Boracay.

Hawaiian Bar-B-Que, Boracay

We had a quick one time late lunch at Hawaiian Bar-B-cue which location was just 5 feet away from our hotel.

It has 2 outlets out of Boracay. One is in Manila Bay and the other one is in Tagaytay. We had never been to any of them. I assumed by the name of the place that bbque here was pineapple marinated and on the sweet side.

bianx played sand while waiting

bianx bbq meal which she loved and wanted to eat the same plate the next day

che's chicken bbq, mine originally but changed my mind

she took the chicken bbq , but forgot to change the breast part order to her favorite chick part- thigh?

my fish in garlicky olive oil was the best, i paired it w baked potato in chives & other herbs

not bad at all :D

Breakfast at Astoria, Boracay

I always enjoy hotel breakfast as I'm a huge buffet fan. I want my plate to have variations from a buffet table. A little of everything is a taste of many things.

Astoria, Boracay's breakfast buffet didn't disappoint us. It had everything we like for our first meal of the day. We did for the whole duration of our stay, and everyday, buffet offered something different from the previous day. Except my niece Bianx fave pancake, no hotcakes ! Here are the dishes from our first morning :

chicken macaroni soup / cereals & milk

pork adobo, best paired w fried rice

daing na bangus (marinated milkfish, fried)

hotdogs for the kids & kids at heart

fried rice

eggplant

breads & butter

fresh fruits

egg omelet made to order of your choice of fillings

There were hot & cold drinks, but my bet was the hot choco which awaken the rainy morning.

Good morning !

Corn Nachos

Aside from bountiful fruits available this summer, another snack I so indulge in is corn nachos.

I especially like it with tomato salsa I prepare myself. see recipe here.

I top it with cheeesy dressing I also diy in my kitchen. Here is my cheesy dressing/dip recipe :

Put everything in a blender _

1 bar of cream cheese - slice
1 large red bell pepper - slice
1 med onion - slice
1 tsp of prepared brown/yellow mustard
salt & pepper to taste

Blend alltogether 'til creamy texture. Voila ! You got nice and delicious dip that you could use as dressing to your salad or dips to your finger chips or fruit snacks

Happy summer snacking ! ! !

Orchid Garden Restaurant

Grande Island Resort (see post here ) has only one restaurant _Orchid Garden Restaurant which serves Oriental cuisine. My only issue during our short stay at the resort was they didn't accommodate room service. It was dinner and the whole day activities in the resort consumed the tiniest energy left in us.

At the end, we insisted and got our way. A kind staff from the resto gave in to our room service request.

The menu offered a short list of ala carte dishes. We ordered variant plates, so we could have a taste of each.

kyla's pork bbque

myka's korean pork stew

bianx' lechon kawali

che's liempo bbque

mixed veggies w/ seafood

pork sinigang

Everyone was too hungry and dived in immediately upon the delivery of the food.

the resort encouraged the guests to bring their own bottled water

We had them served at our beach front veranda and enjoy the food with a view of the dark ocean , brighten by small lights across the sea. In fairness, everything tasted good !!
