World Chicken, MOA

It was one lunch noon, two weeks ago, after a single hour workout, when my friend Lorna pull me out off the gym to grab a plate. She led me to World Chicken, which I haven't tried anyway. I only saw it and its other branches in other malls, always full of people lining- up to order.

So World Chicken is about debone oven grilled chicken, then you get to choose side rice and pasta dishes and choices of sauces.

Lorna got rice as her side dish and for the sauce of her chicken, she chose white cream sauce. As I rarely eat rice with chicken, I was glad there were pastas to choose from.

And since neither I eat pasta without pastry, I went for two side dishes combo. I had ranch barbecue as my chicken sauce and as a contrast to the red I got white fettuccine pasta with cream sauce.

Before I went to taste the food, something had distracted me immediately. The plates!! They were chipped. I didn't think it was appetizing to eat on a chipped plate. My friend joked it was the style of the house. what d'ya think?

Oh, I'm sorry but the only dish I ate from my plate was the muffin. The ranch barbecue sauce was too much for me while the pasta was too bland for me. Well, take the last two sentences as my verdict.

ps: I wonder why it is always full of diners lining -up? I could only agree on one thing, the prices are cheap for a lunch plate. It serves big and plenty. Maybe, it just doesn't suit my weird taste.

Santol

Santol - wild mangosteen, sandorica

Since last month of July, I've been eating santol as plenty as my appetite could surpass.

It's in season and so abundantly available. So cheap too_ at P10 per kilo ( in our local wet market). And I'm referring to the largest variant of bangkok santol.

A kilo would be around 3-4 fruits, depending on the size. So a P50 would get you a 5 kilos with around more than a dozen of santol.

And they're so sweet, my naturally sweet tooth can't help but rejoice to this indulgence.

But this weekend at the market, I saw fewer big santol. I'm thinking, maybe the season is ending. Right now I'm considering of making sweet preserved of this fruit before its season ends.

In the past, I did the same and enjoyed the home made preserve the way I enjoy the fresh ones.

Here's my recipe that I had grabbed from the past during my primary school on my home economics and I'm using up to now.

Santol Preserve Recipe

1. blanch santol with skin for 10 mins.
2. peel
3. cut into halves and remove seeds
4. soak the meats in water for 2 - 3 days (don't fail to change water everyday)
5. on the 3dr day, remove from soaked water, blanch for 5 mins.
6. drain
7. to every 1 cup of santol meat, add 3/4 cup of sugar
8. cook to syrupy consistency
9. keep in a clean container
10. enjoy it as dessert.

Gourmet Cold Cuts

As we say_between two evils, choose the lesser evil...
..well, my family loves to eat meat in any form, but most especially in cold cuts. You know, the ham,bacon,sausage,salami,..the preservatives and the fats!!! My aspiration to make my dining table green and fresh remains to be a wish upon a star.

And so_ if you can't beat them, join them...
.. what I do lately is buying these cold cuts from stores which claim to produce these meats bereft of preservatives and less salt. Huumhp..what else can I do?..I choose the lesser evil.

Most accessible to get these products is from the grocery. Le Gourmet in Shopwise offers a wide variety of meats & cheeses. The kind of food you would buy from gourmet shops like Santi's. Everytime we do our weekly grocery in Shopwise (Alabang), I make sure to drop by to this corner to buy for my family's sandwiches and salads.

- these square cut hams, would be dressed in mayo and pasted with cheese slices, would kick straight to my girl's sandwiches as snacks for school or at home after school.

- honey ham would oftenly land to my salads to offer sweetness to balance the saltyness and sourness of the dressings I pour over the vegies.

_ beef salami for our homemade pizza and tasteful also for pasta dishes.

_my hubby invented his cocktail crackers with this meat rolls cut in bits and top on the crackers. good as tv snacks at home

Another grocery that has this gourmet cold cuts is SM in Makati. I couldn't remember the name of the store, it's inside the grocery too. I also buy there whenever we do our grocery there.

Well, everybody's happy now!!
