Beyond Max's Fried Chicken

Everyone comes to Max's Restaurant for the chicken. After all it was built by fried chicken. Except me! With my girls and husband, we don't actually frequent Max's as much as I did with my parents & relatives when I was growing-up. But when we do, expect me to order anything but the famous fried chicken. My eldest girl would always have the quarter platter thu'.

I'm not sure why I'm not so much liking the Max's fried chicken when the whole country does. Maybe I had enough of it when I was a child. But I was sure as I am now that I don't like their banana catsup. They used to serve a house blended catsup. Today they are using Jufran which I still don't like cos it's still the same banana....catsup, haha.

When we find ourselves at Max's, it surely not my idea...

.. but the dad's.

Neither, it's the fried chicken for him. He has found his favorite dish here long time ago and always push us to go with him everytime he's craving for it.

It's the sizzling tofu. That's it and nothing else. He would order a whole dish of it. None of us would share. No one likes it, haha. Then a portion of it would always be left. Upon bill out, he would ask for the left over to take home. At home he would throw the take out bag inside the ref. When I do the weekly cleaning of ref I would find it untouched and wasted. Down the trash.

But I love Max's snacks. So one time it was lunch but I had no appetite for rich Filipino dishes that they serve other than chicken, so I ordered snacks. Youngest daughter felt the same so we snacked during that lunch, haha.

We shared slices of clubhouse sandwich and we ended filled with satisfaction.

And yes they have one of the best "pansit luglug" in town. It's as delicious as it looks in this photo.

I also went to try their "halo-halo" for the first time and thu' it didn't disappoint, it wasn't the best one I had.

Yet quite better than other fastfood chain's halohalo like that of Chowking's. The serving is also big.

I just have to insert this snapped photo of us_ looks so Max's, right? haha. Looks as 65 years old as Max's is.

And end this post with this one. :)

Buffet @ Vikings

Bestfriend who is Sydney based cut a day from her hectic Ph holiday for me and other bff. After shopping around the metro, dinner was at the Vikings. My first time here. I heard a lot about Vikings yet the extent of the queue of patrons waiting to be seated had surprised me. It was not even a weekend. Imagine Yakimix ( @MOA or Macapagal ) 's queue, double or triple that, it was that crowded. Just like at Yakimix, there are waiting seats outside the store, but I figure Vikings is more clever. Why? It does serve candies/mixnuts/juice to the waiting patrons outside. That could fill you up, already even before you start the buffet inside, haha.

After the long wait ( I think more but not less than an hour ), finally we were seated. See how we looked so disastrous+oiliness.  I gathered that Vikings is accepting reservations. I'll definitely do that next time. I tried once with Yakimix , I called-up to book a table 5 hours before our target dinner time but was informed that they only accept minimum a month pre-booking. At Vikings, we vied for the 52nd slot which possibility was dependent on the non-show of the booked party. We accepted the challenge of waiting cos after we were dropped off by my friend's hubby, the rain poured so hard, we didn't have choice but to stay.

bff at the Asian fusion station

I immediately stopped counting the buffet stations and started to fill-up my first plate. There were too many stations to mention.

We were seated in this section.

With the dessert buffet most near to us. Look how elaborate the fondue buffet spread.

Sharing the table was the local halo-halo buffet.

Also near us, was the beverage bar. It was an open bar, I think. I'm not sure, hadn't tried.

I was particularly happy that there were live/open kitchens for steaks and seafood. Choose your meat and wait for it to be cooked. That fresh!

Sorry I wasn't able to produce nice food photos here, not even the ones on our table. Had no appetite on working the right settings for food shots. I decided to submerge myself into the feast around me, enjoy the company of my best friends and took the lens aside.

We were the last ones who checked-out with happy tummies protruding, haha. Happy time with my bestfriends.

Burgoo

I live in the South (of Mla.) so my SM is the Southmall. Somewhere there, a new food lane is called the  Food Street. Still at the filling-up period, there are yet only less than two digits of restaurants to select from up to this writing. That afternoon, before watching Spiderman (movie) we chose to snack at Burgoo.

Our first at Burgoo.
Maybe the last too.
Maybe not..

cos we actually like their pizza sampler.

and we enjoyed the freedom table where we aptly drew and wrote our von voyage messages to the king of our home who was about to fly in the next few days then.

but thumbs down to the rest of the dishes in our table =( buffalo wings, quesadilla platter, fries and a pasta not in the photos cos it was served late. In this category, Don Henricos is a lot better.

TD (thumbsdown) also for the value of money.
Maybe it was our 1st & last.

Smileys for the attentive servers and good ambience :)
